Tsonga gets a taste of Muay Thai : On September 26th , 2008 Muay Thai seems popular among visiting tennis stars and France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga took a break from tennis for some lessons in the Kingdom's martial art yesterday.
The Australian Open runner-up was taught by 1996 Olympic boxing champion Somluck Kamsing who was a top Muay Thai fighter.
Tsonga, who can be easily mistaken as former heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, said he enjoyed the session.
"It is great to learn something different from tennis. This is my first time in Thailand and Muay Thai is another sport I am interested in. It has both toughness and softness while you fight your opponent," said the popular Frenchman who is second seed here.
But when asked if he fancied a career in Muay Thai which is popular in France, Tsonga said: "Sorry, I don't want to change from tennis to Muay Thai."
On Wednesday, Czech Tomas Berdych got a Muay Thai lesson from Beijing Olympic boxing gold medallist Somjit Jongjohor.
"It is a tough sport. I will learn more about it when I have time. But at the moment, I should focus on tennis," he said.
