22 nations to join the action : On October 13, 2005 Twenty-two countries have confirmed they will participate in the first Asian Indoor Games in Bangkok and the provinces between November 12-19, Maj-Gen Charuek Areerachkaran, secretary of the Olympic Committee of Thailand (OCT), said. Aside from Bangkok, events will be held in Phuket, Suphan Buri and Chon Buri. The 22 countries are Bahrain, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Macau, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen, Iran and Burma. There are expected to be over 1,200 athletes taking part. The Games will include nine sports: Aerobics (Sapan Hin, Phuket), dance sports (Hua Mark indoor stadium), extreme sports (Suphan Buri), futsal (Thai-Japan youth centre in Din Daeng), hoop takraw (the Mall, Bangkapi), indoor athletics (Chon Buri), cycling (Nimibutr Gymnasium), Muay Thai ( Sapan Hin, Phuket : Phuket Muay Thai Boxing Stadium) and swimming (Hua Mark). OCA president Sheik Ahmad al-Fahad al-Sabah and his team will attend the opening ceremony on November 12. |
